Ever heard of a Piezo Ring AFMS in a supply blower

Many HVAC professionals often confuse differential pressure transducers with velocity sensors — but they serve different purposes, even though they can be related!

🔹 Differential Pressure Transducer (DPT)
– Measures pressure difference between two points (e.g., across filters, coils, VAVs)
– Outputs values in inHâ‚‚O or Pa
– Commonly used to monitor clogging, flow rate, or system performance

🔹 Velocity Sensor
– Measures air velocity directly (e.g., ft/min or m/s)
– Used in ducts or hoods to track actual air speed
– Types include hot-wire anemometers, vane sensors, or pitot tubes

âś… Yes, a DPT can be used along with duct geometry or a pitot tube to derive airflow velocity — but it is not a velocity sensor by itself.

📌 Key Difference:
A DPT gives you pressure -> you calculate velocity.
A velocity sensor gives you velocity -> directly!

Hope this clears up the confusion for HVAC engineers, BMS technicians, and controls professionals.
